TOKYO -- Sigma-Links Inc.,
a joint venture between Fujikura Ltd. and Oki Electric Industry
Co., Ltd., have re-vamped their portfolio of EPON optical transceivers
for access networks with their latest releases:- the Small form
factor OLT(OAT1234S-OLT-Sx) and the corresponding ONU (OAT1234S-ONU-Sx).
EPON access networks are commonly deployed
in Japan as a key enabler of FTTH technologies. They utilize
a point to multipoint architecture providing low cost/ high
speed IP video transmission, Internet connections, VOIP and
other broadband services. Upstream packets from the individual
subscribers are combined using TDM and received by the OLT (Optical
Line Terminal) in the central office. Sigma-Links’ OLT
transceiver is capable of error free reception of these upstream
Ethernet packets within the 400 nsec stipulated by the IEE802.3ah.
Importantly, Sigma-Links’ offering does not require a
RESET signal that is commonly inserted between optical packets
leading to easier logic circuit design of the OLT line card.
Similarly, for the subscriber side equipment (which is located
in the home), Sigma-Links’ SFF optical transceiver (OAT1234S-ONU-Sx)
series incorporates control circuitry that stabilizes individual
Ethernet packets within a mere 16 nsec, which improves bandwidth
efficiency. The OAT1234S-OLT-Sx series has an added TF (Transmitter
Failure Alarm) output and comes in a SFF 2x6 pinout.
The OAT1234S-ONU-Sx series is available
in an SFF 2x5 pinout. Sigma-Links series of EPON optical access
network transceivers are fully compliant with the IEEE802.3ah
standard. In addition, there are options available with expanded
optical power budget between the Central Office and subscribers.
This enables PON systems with a larger number of splits leading
to a lower cost and higher efficiency. Sigma-Links has been
providing both domestic and international PON system vendors
with STM-PON and BPON optical transceivers for more than 10
years, since Oki has started to introduce STM-PON. - END - |
